Biography

Susan Sarandon is an American actor who has spent more than five decades in film, television and theater and has won an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Born in Jackson Heights, Queens, she studied drama in Washington, D.C. and made her screen debut in Joe (1970) before appearing on soap operas. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) brought her a following, and Atlantic City (1980) earned her first Oscar nomination. Four more nominations followed, for Thelma & Louise (1991), Lorenzo's Oil (1992) and The Client (1994), and she won for Dead Man Walking (1995) as Helen Prejean. Her other films include The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Bull Durham (1988), Stepmom (1998), Enchanted (2007), The Lovely Bones (2009), Cloud Atlas (2012) and The Meddler (2015). She has also worked on stage and played Bette Davis in Feud (2017).
