Plot summary
Leif Reinhold is a percussionist who lives in a shed behind his friend Gorka's place in Los Angeles, devoted to his black labrador Nora. Then he learns that Honey, the mother who walked out on him at twelve to join a cult, has died of cancer, and he shrugs it off. What she leaves behind is a wood cabin in the mountains, with a catch: he has to finish the to-do list she explains on a pre-recorded video, a last attempt to get through to him. At the cabin he finds the cupboards packed with marijuana. One task sends him rowing across a lake to slip a note into a house; another demands he catch a fish with his bare hands. A later request asks him to call his former girlfriend Audrey and make amends.
