Plot summary
Three generations of Lily's family come to her seaside house for a weekend, and with her husband's help she has chosen to end her life when the weekend is over. Jennifer, one of the daughters, helps her sister Anna settle into her room after a late arrival and asks why she has missed family occasions. Anna has brought Chris, whom the others are meeting for the first time. Anna is critical of Jennifer's husband Michael, and Jennifer disapproves of Chris and of Liz, Lily's long-time friend, who is staying with them. They spend the early part of the weekend on crossword puzzles, charades and meals.
