Plot summary
Every evening the el train carries John Clark home past Miss Mitzi's Dance Studio, where a young woman gazes from a window. Clark is an estate lawyer in Chicago who loves his wife Beverly and their family, but twenty years of marriage and full schedules have left him unfulfilled. One night he steps off the train and enrolls in beginner ballroom lessons. The woman is Paulina, a studio instructor and former world-class ballroom dancer, though the beginner class is taught by Miss Mitzi herself. Vern and Chic are in the class with him, and Bobbie, an outspoken competitive dancer, is at the studio looking for a partner. John keeps the lessons from his family.
