Richard Gere
Biography
Richard Gere is an American actor who began his career on the stage, working in Seattle and Cape Cod in 1969 before appearing in a Broadway rock opera and the London production of Grease. He moved into film in the 1970s with Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) and Days of Heaven (1978). American Gigolo (1980) made him a leading man, and An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) brought his first Golden Globe nomination. He earned a second nomination for Pretty Woman (1990), part of a comeback that also included Internal Affairs (1990). Later films range from Primal Fear (1996) and Runaway Bride (1999) to Chicago (2002), which won him a Golden Globe. He received a fourth nomination for Arbitrage (2012) and starred in Norman (2016). Critics have noted he is among the best actors never nominated for an Academy Award.
