Plot summary
Thirteen years ago, the primate general Zhong overthrew his own brother to take the throne of Bana, using a spacetime anomaly called the slick, which opens black holes. The resulting black hole broke the planet into pieces and swallowed many of its people. Among the survivors were Spark, then an infant monkey, the warrior fox Vix and the boar mechanic Chunk. Now the three of them and Bananny, Spark's forgetful nanny bot, hide on a floating scrap heap, and Vix and Chunk carry out raids against Zhong without letting Spark tag along. When Spark intercepts a message meant for Vix about a fresh mission, he sets out on it himself, which brings him inside the palace and to the Queen of Bana.
