Plot summary
Suzette has spent her life chasing rock musicians and good times, and now, past middle age, she is fired from her bartending job at a Los Angeles club. Broke, she drives to Phoenix to see Vinnie, the best friend she has not spoken to in twenty years. The two once called themselves the Banger Sisters, groupies known around Southern California. Vinnie is now Lavinia Kingsley, married to Raymond, a lawyer with political ambitions, raising two teenage daughters in a comfortable suburb. Suzette suspects the family knows nothing about her old life. On the road she picks up Harry Plummer, a screenwriter heading home to Phoenix with his own business to settle.
