Plot summary
Marnie Minervini is a widow in Los Angeles. Her late husband's money pays for a place near the Grove, and she has moved from New Jersey to be close to her daughter, Lori, who writes for television and is still single. Marnie is lonely and heartbroken, and she wants a new life. She sends texts, arrives without warning and offers advice nobody asked for. Lori, who sees a therapist, is annoyed and sets strict personal boundaries. On Valentine's Day the two go out together and run into Lori's ex with a new girlfriend. Lori pretends she is dating too, and Marnie ruins it. Marnie visits Lori's therapist to ask why her daughter behaves as she does, and the therapist tells her to deal with her own grief over losing her husband.
