Plot summary
Jackie Harrison and her ex-husband Luke live apart in New York City and share their two children, Anna and Ben. Luke works as an attorney and has been with Isabel Kelly for a year. Isabel is a fashion photographer several years younger than Luke and never wanted to be a mother, yet she tries to make Anna and Ben feel at ease. Anna rejects her, while Ben, who likes her, brings complications of his own. Around Jackie, Isabel is cautious but holds her in contempt, thinking she spoils the children to make up for the divorce. Jackie, a former publisher who now stays at home, treats Isabel coldly and considers her immature and selfish. Jackie also holds on to anger toward Luke, which comes out in arguments about Isabel's parenting.
