Plot summary
Bennett Brewer and Rose, both teenagers, have sex once, the first time for either of them. At night, while Bennett is parked on a road, a truck crashes into his car and kills him. His mother Grace, his father Allen and his younger brother Ryan are left grieving; Ryan never said a final goodbye to his brother. Rose has no family to support her. She is pregnant with Bennett's child, and she arrives at the Brewer house, knocking at their door.

- Feste got help from Creative Artists Agency director Richard Lovett, for whom she had once worked as an assistant. CAA sent the script to Pierce Brosnan's producing partner Beau St. Clair, and shortly after, Susan Sarandon joined the film, convinced by Brosnan.
- It was Feste's directorial debut, and to gain the confidence of investors and producers she made a scrapbook that set out her ideas on tone, camera movement, color, space and lines.
