Plot summary
Jaime Reyes comes back to Palmera City, where he grew up, after finishing his degree at Gotham Law University. He finds the family in money trouble and about to lose the house. His younger sister Milagro gets him hired at the mansion of Victoria Kord, but the two of them are dismissed after Jaime steps between Victoria and her niece Jenny. Jenny asks him to visit Kord Tower the next day to talk about work. Having found Victoria using the Scarab, an ancient alien relic Kord Industries pulled from Antarctica, for her OMAC projects, Jenny takes it and hides it in a takeout box that Jaime brings home. His family talks him into opening the box, and the Scarab attaches to him and covers him in an exoskeleton.

- While filming at Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Puerto Rico, the crew dug a small divot in the grass to get the camera low for a shot of Victoria Kord dropping a control device; they had inadvertently damaged a national heritage site and were fined $10,000.
- The moment where Jaime's energy shields inadvertently slice a bus in half was achieved using two physically separated halves of a real bus.
- Sharon Stone was in talks to play the villain Victoria Kord, an original creation for the film, but negotiations ended and Susan Sarandon was cast as Victoria Kord in mid-April 2022.
