Plot summary
Christopher Reeve grows up in a family complicated by his parents' divorces and remarriages, with a strained relationship with his father, Franklin. At the Juilliard School he forms a close friendship with a classmate. Casting for Superman seeks an unknown for the title role; Reeve auditions and wins it, despite his father's disapproval. The 1978 film makes him a star, but the role keeps him from the wider career he wants. He lives in London with modeling agent Gae Exton, and they have two children, Matthew and Alexandra, before separating in 1987. He then meets singer Dana Morosini, and they wed in April 1992; their son Will is born that June. In May 1995 a fall from his horse leaves Reeve paralyzed from the neck down, and Dana stays at his side.
