Plot summary
Remy works as a barker at a pier carnival that has fallen on hard times, alongside his two childhood friends: Augie, who repairs the rides, and Curt, the assistant manager. When the bank forecloses on the carnival, Remy borrows a spell book from the fortune-teller Madame Zonar and puts it on display at the carnival's Gates of Hell attraction. Curt asks for a mint; Remy makes him seal a blood oath on the book that he will pay it back, and the ride's portal swallows Curt. Remy and Augie take one of the ride's cars through the portal after him and end up in Hell, where the Devil says he plans to torture them. A demon, Deema, offers to guide them to Curt if they take her to see Orpheus.
