Morgan Freeman
Biography
Morgan Freeman is an American actor, producer and narrator whose screen and stage work has spanned six decades. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, he grew up in Mississippi and first acted in school plays, later studying theater arts in Los Angeles and appearing in stage productions. He became widely known in the 1970s through the children's show The Electric Company, won an Obie Award for Coriolanus and earned a Tony nomination for The Mighty Gents. After an Oscar nomination for his role as a street hustler in Street Smart, he earned nods for Driving Miss Daisy (1989) and The Shawshank Redemption (1994), won the Best Supporting Actor award for Million Dollar Baby (2004) and was nominated again for Invictus (2009). He played Lucius Fox across the Dark Knight trilogy, narrated March of the Penguins, and directed Bopha! (1993).

Behind the camera
Morgan Freeman wanted for a while to make a film about Nelson Mandela. He hoped to adapt Mandela's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, as a screenplay, but those plans fell through, so he bought the rights to John Carlin's Playing the Enemy.

While filming Outbreak, Freeman wanted to start a film production company. He asked McCreary, who produced Bopha!, to be his business partner, and they named their firm Revelations Entertainment to reveal hidden truths and achieve on-screen representation.
Beyond film
Freeman played Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew at Delacorte Theater in 1990, a role he had been considering for six years.

The film earned four Academy Awards, among them Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Hilary Swank, and Best Supporting Actor, which was Freeman's first Academy Award.
