Plot summary
Betty Sizemore waits tables at a diner in Fair Oaks, Kansas, where she follows the soap opera A Reason to Love and dreams of nursing. Her husband Del, a car salesman, keeps secrets from her: an affair with his secretary and money from selling drugs. The Buick she takes for her birthday carries his stash in its trunk, and when two hitmen, Charlie and Wesley, come to the house for the drugs, Del tells them where he hid it. Charlie shoots him while Betty watches, and in her shock she takes on the identity of a nurse from the show and drives off toward Los Angeles.
