Plot summary
Roger spends his shifts at the museum watching The Lonely Maiden, a painting of a woman gazing into the distance, and his wife Rose wants him to retire and move to Florida. Charles is attached to a canvas of a woman and her cats, and George, on the night shift, strips naked and poses beside a Greek warrior sculpture. When the museum sends that collection to a Danish museum in Copenhagen, the three guards, barely more than acquaintances, decide to replace their favorites with copies before the crates are loaded. Charles, a painter, reproduces the cat picture himself but cannot match the Maiden, so they approach a street artist, paid with money Roger took from Rose's Florida savings. Rose grows suspicious.

- The Maiden Heist was shelved after its distributor, Yari Film Group, went bankrupt, scuttling a tentative release date of May 29, 2009. It only surfaced later at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
- The painting The Lonely Maiden at the center of the film was made specifically for it by artist Jeremy Lipking. The cat painting and the Greek sculpture were also created specifically for the production.
