Plot summary
Jonesy, Beaver, Pete and Henry have been friends since childhood, when they rescued Douglas Cavell, a boy with disabilities they call Duddits, from bullies and came away with telepathic powers they name the line. Every year the four go hunting in the Maine woods, and this year Jonesy brings Rick McCarthy, a man lost in the forest and gravely ill, to the cabin to rest. Rick has odd marks on his face. Then every animal in the forest, predator and prey alike, runs past the cabin in one direction, and two military helicopters follow and announce that the area is under quarantine.

- In a 2012 interview Kasdan admitted the commercial failure of Dreamcatcher hurt his career: he had been planning to make The Risk Pool with Tom Hanks, from a script he had written from a book by Richard Russo, and it did not happen.
- Stephen King praised the adaptation of his work, calling it one of the very, very good adaptations and saying the film “would do for the toilet what Psycho did for the shower.”
- Dreamcatcher took $33,685,268 in the North American domestic market, only half of its estimated $68 million production budget, barely passing that figure worldwide with $75,715,436, and the film is considered a flop.
