Plot summary

Harry Keach, a widower, works construction in South Florida and was raised to value working for a living. His son Howard is in his early twenties, holds a part-time job, spends his days surfing and chasing girls, and hopes to make his name as a writer. Harry also has a strained relationship with his daughter Nina, who married Andy, an insurance salesman. Intense headaches and blurred vision cost Harry control of his crane's wrecking ball, and he loses his job. He refuses a place at his brother Tom's military surplus store.
