Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Heath Ledger's family stated that he had been planning to reprise his role as the Joker before his death, a notion supported by his co-star Aaron Eckhart, but after Ledger died director Christopher Nolan decided not to recast the role out of respect for his performance, and was initially hesitant to make a third film.
- For the film's prevalent chant of "Deshi Basara", Zimmer crowdsourced online audio recordings in November 2011, tweeting and posting on the internet for anyone who wanted to take part, because he wanted hundreds of thousands of voices and could not easily get them otherwise.
- Nolan has said his draft of the script was inspired by Charles Dickens's 1859 novel A Tale of Two Cities: Bane is shown inconspicuously finger knitting paracord as a nod to the novel's villain Madame Defarge, and Commissioner Gordon's eulogy for Bruce Wayne is taken directly from Dickens's novel.
- Zoë Kravitz attempted to audition for a role in the film but was rejected for being "too urban"; she would later go on to play Catwoman in the 2022 film The Batman.
- Hardy wanted the character to be more menacing than Robert Swenson's version in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, and gained 30 lb for the role, increasing his weight to 200 lb; he later said the training probably damaged his body.
