Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Hard Rain (1998)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The flood-ravaged town in the film is Huntingburg, Indiana, which in reality has no major river or dam nearby; the production also built a $6 million flood set inside a Palmdale, California aircraft hangar where the B-1 Lancer bomber was manufactured.
SPOILER
Morgan Freeman played a criminal meant to die at the end, but after a test audience objected that his character should not die and deserved some of the money, the filmmakers reshot the ending so Freeman's thief survives and walks away with cash.- In a 2024 interview, Minnie Driver alleged a producer told her not to wear a wetsuit under her shirt so her nipples would show on camera; costume designer Kathleen Detoro disputed it, saying wetsuits were supplied to everyone and it was each actor's choice, while a Morgan Freeman representative said he had no memory of it.
- Screenwriter Graham Yost later said the film was conceived simply as a modern-day western, but became so expensive to produce that its focus drifted away from that original idea, even though he felt director Mikael Salomon still did a great job.
