Plot summary

Sidney Poitier's life and career are the subject of a documentary that moves through his years as a leading man in the Golden Age of Hollywood and his part in the civil rights movement. It follows his path to the first Best Actor Oscar won by a Black man, for Lilies of the Field in 1963, and the standard he set for Black actors in Hollywood. Also covered are his work as a director and producer and his time as a diplomat. He was husband to two wives and father to six daughters. Poitier's account comes from an in-depth interview, joined by the recollections of family, friends and those he influenced most.
