Plot summary
Wesley Allan Gibson works a dead-end desk job in Chicago and takes medication for panic attacks. He lives with his girlfriend Cathy, who cheats on him with Barry, his co-worker and best friend. One evening a woman named Fox tells him that his father, whom he never knew, worked as an assassin, and that Cross, the man who killed him, is now hunting Wesley. Gunfire breaks out between Cross and Fox; Wesley panics and runs. Fox helps him get away, and he wakes in a factory among Fox and other assassins.

- James McAvoy screen-tested for the lead in early 2006 and was initially rejected because Universal wanted a conventional leading-man look; he was recalled after being seen as the "runt of the litter" among the actors tested, since the studio ultimately wanted someone geeky.
- The film's original visual effects supervisor, Jon Farhat, had to withdraw due to illness; his replacement, Stefen Fangmeier, arrived expecting four months of work but found only 12 of the planned 500 composite shots finished, forcing him to bring in two more supervisors to hit the deadline.

Angelina Jolie personally pushed for her character Fox to die at the end, reasoning that if Fox learned she had unjustly killed people as part of something unfair, she should take her own life.- Production designer John Myhre built the Fraternity's giant textile-mill headquarters, where fabric looms supposedly encode assassination targets, by converting a former sugar factory in Prague into a full industrial set.
- For the train-derailment sequence, the crew built two full-size train cars, including a Czech Pendolino mounted on a hydraulic gimbal so it could tilt and roll realistically as it was made to crash.
- Wanted's opening weekend was the best ever for a June-released R-rated film, a record that stood for four years until Prometheus and Ted surpassed it.
