Plot summary
A known actor, four years without a role, is taken by a young filmmaker, Packy, to Archie's Ranch Market, a supermarket in Carver City, to study the place for a possible part as a manager. He follows Lee, the older assistant manager, around the aisles and admires Scarlet, a cashier from Spain with a gift for working the 10 items or less lane. Scarlet dislikes the job and clashes with Lorraine, another cashier. When her shift ends, Packy has not come back, and the actor has no car and no phone, so Scarlet agrees to drive him home after her errands. She is preparing to interview for a new job.
