Plot summary
After an argument, Ted and Tami-Lynn's co-worker Joy suggests a baby would help their marriage. Ted cannot father one, so John helps him find a sperm donor. Those attempts fail, and past drug use has left Tami-Lynn infertile, so the pair decide to adopt. The background checks raise the question of Ted's legal standing, and Massachusetts declares him property rather than a person. He loses his job and his bank accounts, and the marriage is annulled. John suggests a court challenge.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ted 2 (2015)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The initial storyline had Ted and John smuggling cannabis across the country, but the concept was scrapped over concerns it was too similar to the recently released We're the Millers, and was overhauled into one inspired by John Jakes' North and South series and the life of Dred Scott.
- Mila Kunis was set to reprise her role as Lori, but the new storyline required a lawyer as the female lead and there was no room for the character; Amanda Seyfried was cast instead, and Kunis attributed her absence to scheduling conflicts, citing her pregnancy.
- The opening was a disappointment against a projected $45-50 million and the first film's $54.4 million debut three years earlier, and was director MacFarlane's second consecutive underperforming opening after A Million Ways to Die in the West opened to $16.8 million.
- In January 2013, on Anderson Live, Mark Wahlberg confirmed the film was in production and that it would be the first sequel in his career, also revealing that he and Ted, as voiced by MacFarlane, would appear at the 85th Academy Awards.
