Plot summary

Bare Hollow, Mississippi is the town where the stockbroker grew up, and he has come back to live there. Residents made money following his stock advice, and his latest call, about a merger deal, does not work out, costing many of them their savings. He rents the house next door to Delaine, a waitress in the town; he had a crush on her in high school, and the two begin a relationship. Delaine's father is battling stage four cancer. Sheriff Thurmond Fowler, a by-the-book lawman, has served as the town's sheriff for over four decades. Lucius is a local petty criminal.
