Plot summary
Officer Raphael Deed rides with F.R.A.T., the elite tactical unit of the Edison police department. When his partner shoots a man during a pursuit and then takes cash and cocaine from two dealers, Deed backs up the story his partner invents for the trial. Reporter Joshua Pollack, certain the unit is corrupt, overhears the surviving dealer thanking the officers after the trial and tries to question them. His editor, Moses Ashford, tells him that without facts he can only write the verdict, and fires him when Pollack calls him a fraud. Pollack's girlfriend, Willow, agrees with Ashford. Pollack keeps digging and brings his suspicions to the district attorney's office.

- While the film was shooting, people assumed its title pointed at the New Jersey township of Edison, then in the middle of a controversy over its police force. Writer-director David J. Burke said he had taken the name from Thomas Edison and its associations with electricity, power and industry.
