Biography

James Hong is an American actor, director, and producer who has worked in more than 600 film and television productions since the 1950s. Born in Minneapolis and partly raised in Hong Kong, he began his career dubbing Asian films and co-founded East West Players, an Asian American theater company. On television he starred in The New Adventures of Charlie Chan from 1957 to 1958 and guest-starred in series such as Bonanza, Perry Mason, Hawaii Five-O, and Kung Fu. His many films include Soldier of Fortune (1955), Flower Drum Song (1961), Chinatown (1974), Blade Runner (1982), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), and Wayne's World 2 (1993). As a voice actor he played Chi-Fu in Mulan (1998) and Mr. Ping in Kung Fu Panda (2008). He shared a Screen Actors Guild Award with the ensemble of Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and in 2022 received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
