Plot summary
As a boy, Randy Daytona knows his father Pete has wagered on his performance at the Olympic table tennis tournament. In the semifinal against Karl Wolfschtagg of the German Democratic Republic, Randy is hurt and cannot continue, and the match is lost. Men working for Feng kill his father, and Randy leaves competitive ping-pong. Years later he makes a living with trick shots on a Las Vegas stage, and loses that job. FBI agent Ernie Rodriguez then asks for his help: Feng, wanted for gunrunning, runs an underground table tennis tournament from a hidden jungle compound, and an invitation to it is the bureau's way in. Randy must win local championships until Feng's scouts take notice. He trains with Wong, a blind restaurateur who once taught Feng, and Wong's niece Maggie.
