Plot summary
Commander Wayne arrives at Topside, the support ship for the Sealab on the ocean floor, because an unidentified object circles the station. A diving bell carries him down to meet Dr. LaSatier and Dr. Rene Peron, a marine biologist. Diver Hugh Maddox and photographer Sandra Welles take a minisub close to the submerged object and photograph it; it resembles a flying saucer about fifty feet across. Inside, a triangular door opens and a robotic arm pushes out a cylinder packed in ice beneath a heat lamp. The ice melts, and the cylinder is carried back to Sealab, where it grows.

- Destination Inner Space and Castle of Evil, the first two films from United Picture Corporation, were shot back-to-back in only 14 days; director Francis D. Lyon later wrote that he did not recommend the hurried approach because quality has to suffer.
- The film was Sheree North's first motion picture in almost a decade: after many feature roles she had worked extensively in television and on stage, and had not appeared in a film since Mardi Gras in 1958.
