Plot summary
Alexandra Barnes is a data analyst at the Department of Justice. A run of deaths among wealthy men holds her attention: each was seemingly healthy, each died of respiratory failure from a rare condition called Ondine's curse, and each had married a younger woman a short time before. From photographs of the widows, Alexandra decides that one woman is behind the marriages, changing her hair color and making herself look older. She believes the woman kills her husbands for their money but cannot prove it, and her superior, Bruce, is skeptical of the theory when she asks to investigate in person.
