Trailer

Plot summary

Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese immigrant in California, runs a laundromat in Simi Valley with her husband Waymond. The business is failing, an IRS audit is coming, her father Gong Gong is irritable, and her daughter Joy is depressed and has a girlfriend, Becky. Waymond wants to talk about their marriage. At the tax office, Alpha-Waymond, a version of Waymond from a parallel universe, takes control of his body and tells Evelyn that every choice opens another universe. Verse-jumping technology, developed in the Alphaverse, lets a person borrow the skills and memories of other selves. The multiverse is in danger from Jobu Tupaki, a being who experiences every universe at once, and Alpha-Waymond believes Evelyn, the biggest failure among her many selves, can stop it.
