Plot summary
Nick holds an entry-level desk job at a corporation, where he runs a credit card fraud and sells drugs on the side. K-Luv belongs to the V-Dubs, an African-American street gang also known as the Visitacion Valley Mafia. Lincoln is climbing in the Chinese mafia. Gentrification pushes Nick's family from the Mission District to Hunter's Point, where the V-Dubs harass them. K-Luv sells bootleg compact discs, and he brings Nick in to help with the copying and to work out a truce with Lincoln. Lincoln is involved with Angela, the daughter of his boss, a Stanford student engaged to Edwin, a classmate of hers in medical school.

- The title of Sucker Free City comes from "Sucka Free," a slang term for the city used by natives of Hunters Point and The Fillmore and popularized by rappers San Quinn, JT the Bigga Figga and the song "Sucka Free" from Rappin' 4-Tay's 1994 album Don't Fight the Feelin'.
