Biography

Dennis Quaid is an American actor. Raised in Houston, he studied at the University of Houston before dropping out and moving to Hollywood, where an uncredited part in Crazy Mama led to early work. Breaking Away (1979) brought him notice, and he broke through as astronaut Gordon Cooper in The Right Stuff (1983), which Roger Ebert praised for its uniformly interesting performances. Comedies and science fiction followed, among them Innerspace (1987), and he earned an Independent Spirit nomination for The Big Easy (1986). He played Jerry Lee Lewis in Great Balls of Fire! (1989) and, later, the twins' father in The Parent Trap (1998). Far from Heaven (2002) brought him a Golden Globe nomination and Independent Spirit and New York Film Critics Circle awards. On television he took the part of Bill Clinton in The Special Relationship, earning Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominations, and he played Ronald Reagan in Reagan (2024).
