Plot summary
John Sullivan is a homicide detective in New York City who lives in Queens in the house where he grew up. His father, Frank Sullivan, was a firefighter and a Mets fan who died in a warehouse fire on October 12, 1969, when John was six. Nearly thirty years later, John finds Frank's old ham radio, and an atmospheric phenomenon makes it work again. The voice at the other end belongs to Frank, in the same house thirty years before. They talk about the World Series, and John understands who he is speaking with. He tells Frank about the fire that kills him, hoping to change it.
