Plot summary
George Dupler, a married man approaching middle age, throws a chair through his boss's window during a tantrum at work and is demoted to the midnight shift at an all-night pharmacy and convenience store. His eighteen-year-old son Freddie has taken up with Cheryl Gibbons, a married woman older than he is and a distant cousin. George tells Freddie to end it, but Freddie says he may love her. Cheryl sings and writes songs, and she is married to Bobby, a firefighter. One night she comes into the store where George is working, and she takes an interest in him that he starts to share.
