Plot summary
Henry Ashton, the American president, comes to Salamanca, Spain, for a summit at which a treaty against global terrorism is to be signed, and he speaks at a public ceremony in the Plaza Mayor. Thomas Barnes, a senior Secret Service agent, is guarding him again less than a year after he took a bullet for the president; his colleague Kent Taylor brought him onto the assignment, while others believe the earlier shooting left him unstable. Enrique, a plainclothes police officer in Salamanca, is assigned to the city's mayor, who moderates the event. Howard Lewis, an American tourist, films the crowd with his camcorder. A sniper shoots the president, a bomb goes off in the plaza, and the minutes surrounding both are replayed from each witness's vantage point.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Vantage Point (2008)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The role of GNN producer Rex Brooks was written as a man and journalist Howard Lewis as an overweight Eastern European in the original script; director Pete Travis changed Brooks to a woman to cast Sigourney Weaver, and made Howard American once Forest Whitaker showed interest in the part.
- A U.S. Army veteran trained Dennis Quaid and the other lead actors for two weeks to move like Secret Service agents, and Quaid performed nearly all of his own driving in the film's car-chase scenes himself, leaving only the actual crashes to stunt drivers.
