Plot summary

Detective Aidan Breslin works in dental forensics, and since his wife's death he has grown apart from his sons, Alex and Sean. A crime scene yields human teeth and a painted message, 'come and see'; the teeth match a missing man. Mrs. Spitz is found dead in her bedroom, suspended from a device of hooks, with the words on four walls. Her autopsy shows a precise stab wound and that she was pregnant, the fetus gone. Breslin believes four attackers recorded the killing, and he comforts Mrs. Spitz's adopted daughter, Kristen. A second murder repeats the method, and the hooks lead him to a tattoo parlor whose owner built four of the devices. When Sean spots a photograph at home, Breslin turns to the Bible and finds the murders tied to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
