Plot summary
In 2174, with Earth's resources exhausted, humanity sends the interstellar ark Elysium to colonize Tanis, an Earth-like planet. Sixty thousand passengers travel in hypersleep, and a rotating crew wakes every two years to maintain the ship. Corporal Bower and Lieutenant Payton of flight team five wake to partial amnesia and an unstable reactor that sends power surging through the vessel. Unable to open the door to the bridge from inside their quarters, Payton works at the computer while Bower climbs into the ventilation system to open it from the outside. He emerges into corridors stalked by cannibalistic humanoids, and meets the environmental scientist Nadia and the farmer Manh, who are also trying to survive.

- Writer Travis Milloy's script began as a prison-transport story where the cannibal hunters were mutated convicts; director Christian Alvart merged it with his own unrelated screenplay about amnesiac astronauts, which is why the word "Pandorum" changed from the ship's name to the name of a space-madness illness.
- Convinced no studio would back it, Milloy considered shooting the film himself on video in an abandoned paper mill with unknown actors before producers Paul W. S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt picked it up.
- The film's North American distributor, Overture Films, went bankrupt the year after Pandorum flopped at the box office.
