George Dryer played football for Celtic, Liverpool, D.C. United and Scotland, and he now lives in Virginia, near his ex-wife Stacie and their son Lewis. Lewis is often disappointed in him, and George sells old memorabilia while he tries to get work as a sports announcer. Stacie is planning to marry Matt. At Lewis's soccer practice the team's parents ask George to take over as coach, and he reluctantly agrees. A wealthy father, Carl King, offers him favors in return for preference for his own children, and three of the players' mothers, Barb, Denise and Patti, seek him out.
