Plot summary
Thirty days is what the bank gives Jerry Kane and his son Joe to pay what they owe on their house or leave it. Jerry makes his living giving public talks for the sovereign citizen movement, and he keeps Joe out of school, teaching him at home that laws are illusions and that freedom is something a person takes. He refuses to pay. A traffic stop then puts him in custody, charged with driving with no license and no registration, and Joe spends a short time in a juvenile detention center, where staff press him to enroll in a public high school and ask him about his father's beliefs.
