Plot summary
Kurt Warner grows up watching the Super Bowl and decides he will play quarterback in it. At the University of Northern Iowa he is a fifth-year starter whose coach, Terry Allen, threatens to bench him. He is not taken in the NFL draft, and a tryout with the Green Bay Packers ends badly. He moves into the basement of Brenda, a single mother of two studying nursing, and takes a night job stocking shelves at a Hy-Vee grocery store. When Jim Foster offers him the quarterback job with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League, Kurt takes it while he waits for an NFL team to call.
