Biography

Eddie Marsan is an English actor who was born in Stepney and grew up in Bethnal Green, later training at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and graduating in 1991. After leaving school at 16 and an apprenticeship as a printer, he began working in theater, and his first television appearance came in 1992 in The Piglet Files. Early screen work included the sitcom Game On and roles in Casualty, The Bill and Silent Witness. His performance in Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) brought him Best Supporting Actor awards from the London Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics. He played the main villain in Hancock (2008) and Inspector Lestrade in Sherlock Holmes (2009), with other film credits including Vera Drake (2004), Gangs of New York (2002), 21 Grams (2003), Tyrannosaur (2011) and Filth (2013). On television he portrayed Terry Donovan across seven series of Ray Donovan, and he appeared as Mitch Winehouse in Back to Black (2024).
