Plot summary
Jennifer Vogel is the daughter of John, a man whose charm and appetite for adventure fill her childhood and who teaches her about love and joy. He also runs a second life as a counterfeiter, a bank robber and a con man, and the money he brings in is meant to provide for her. Jennifer writes down her recollections of growing up between those two versions of her father, and she weighs the affection she feels for him against what he did. Her account also takes in nearly $20 million in counterfeit bills, one of the largest seizures of its kind in the country's history.

- Sean Penn only expected to act in Flag Day. He told Deadline Hollywood at Cannes in 2021 that he took on the director's job himself after trouble finding the right person, making it the first film he directed in which he also appears.
