Plot summary
Joseph is a man of violent moods in northern England: a dispute with a bookmaker ends with his dog dead, and a night in a pub ends with a young man knocked unconscious. Fleeing through the back exit, he hides in a charity shop, where Hannah, a Christian who runs the store, urges him to release his anger. He encounters Samuel, his six-year-old neighbor, while the boy's mother is inside with her abusive boyfriend. Men from the post office beat Joseph unconscious that evening; the next day Hannah tends his injuries, and he mocks her faith and leaves. Hannah's husband James is violent with her at home.

- American film critic and blogger Jeffrey Wells was so taken by Tyrannosaur after seeing it at the Los Angeles Film Festival that he started a fundraising campaign to raise $2,000 for the rental of a screening room for Hollywood critics. Wells claimed this was the first screening financed by a critic.
- When the BAFTA nominations were announced on 17 January 2012, the omission of Olivia Colman from the Best Actress category led to global trending of both Olivia Colman and Tyrannosaur on Twitter.
- Many of the extras were local residents, including local busker Chris Wheat, who was given a part after singing to the cast and crew on set and performs his own original song in the film. Workers from the local St Vincent's Charity Shop also got small parts.
- Manners Estate, the name used in the film, is the council estate in the parish of Winshill near Burton-on-Trent where Paddy Considine grew up.
