Plot summary
In July 1976, Wilfried Böse and Brigitte Kuhlmann are among four hijackers who seize Air France Flight 139 after it stops in Athens, forcing the plane to land in Entebbe, Uganda. There they join members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The next morning, the passengers are taken to an airport terminal, where Ugandan dictator Idi Amin greets them; he supports the hijackers. The terrorists separate Israeli and non-Israeli hostages and demand the release of prisoners held in Israel. In Israel, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Defense Minister Shimon Peres disagree over whether to negotiate or use force. Rabin pursues diplomacy, while the military prepares a rescue operation led by Yoni Netanyahu and the Sayeret Matkal commando unit.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- During filming in Malta, a plane landed at Malta International Airport as a result of a real hijacking, and scenes of passengers exiting after negotiations had succeeded were used in the movie.
- The film crew reportedly purchased an old PIA Airbus A310 for USD 200,000 and repainted it in the colors of the plane involved in the incident; a 2020 lawsuit by PIA accused the airline's CEO Bernd Hildenbrand of arbitrarily selling the plane to Germany to embezzle public funds.
SPOILER
The film places Yonatan Netanyahu's death much earlier in the raid than the Netanyahu family's version of events; director Padilha said this was based on interviews with participants in the raid.- On 29 July 2016, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl and Vincent Cassel joined to play the lead roles in the film, but Cassel ultimately did not participate.
