Plot summary
Gary King is an alcoholic who decides to recapture his youth. He looks up four friends from his school days, Andrew Knightley, Oliver Chamberlain, Peter Page and Steven Prince, and talks them into finishing the Golden Mile, twelve pubs in their hometown of Newton Haven, ending at The World's End. In 1990 the group tried the same crawl and did not reach the last pub. Andrew, sober since a 1997 drunk driving accident, refuses until Gary tells him his mother has died. In town they meet Sam, Oliver's sister.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- After the story was complete, Wright and Pegg examined a list of real pub names and tried to make them “like tarot cards” to foreshadow events. One became the Famous Cock, Wright explained, “because this is where Gary is trying to puff up his own importance”.
- The Broadway Cinema in Letchworth, a renovated independent cinema built in the 1930s in the Art Deco style, was used to portray the Mermaid pub. It was also the first cinema outside London to play the film, with an introduction by Pegg, and over 800 viewers watched it there on opening night.
- The version of “20 Seconds to Comply” in the film is the mix from Silver Bullet's album Bring Down the Walls No Limit Squad Returns, edited to remove dialogue samples from RoboCop. On the soundtrack album it is replaced by the Bomb Squad mix, again re-edited to remove the samples.
