Plot summary

Matt Hagen goes from a Gotham City street kid to a Hollywood leading man, his rise cut short when a local crime boss leaves him horribly disfigured. His team abandons him, and with nothing left he seeks out a cutting edge treatment intended to restore his former face. Dr. Caitlyn Corr, a scientist whose work is considered fringe, is the one developing it. Hagen volunteers as her test subject. The treatment gives him back his appearance, but the side effects are psychological and physical: his body turns into living clay and his grip on reality slips. Gotham City police detective John Borrelli is dating Caitlyn.

Tom Rhys Harries shot all of his scenes with a torn ACL, working through the injury during principal photography on the film.
James Gunn announced that relative newcomer Tom Rhys Harries was cast as Clayface after "a long and incredibly exhaustive search" that producer Peter Safran estimated saw "hundreds" of actors considered, with the producers after the best performer rather than a high-profile star.
Tom Blyth, George MacKay, Jack O'Connell and Leo Woodall were in the running and read for the title role in early June 2025, but James Gunn and Peter Safran "weren't ready to pull the trigger" on any of them and decided to widen the search.
Liverpool doubled for Gotham City: the Liverpool Central Library stood in for the Crown Court, the Law Courts building became Gotham Hospital, and part of North John Street was dressed as the Gotham Docks.
