Plot summary
While Henry VIII commands his army in France, his sixth wife, Katherine Parr, is named regent of England. In his absence she looks after his children, Mary, Elizabeth, and Edward, and she takes risks to meet an old friend, Anne Askew, who preaches Protestantism. The king comes back ill and paranoid, and the men of his court seek to turn him against Katherine. Bishop Gardiner regards her religious views as dangerous.
