Plot summary
The docklands district of Limehouse, in Victorian London, has been shaken by a string of murders. The press has named the killer the Golem, a name taken from a Jewish legend. Elizabeth Cree, a music-hall star, is charged with poisoning her husband John. He died on the night of the most recent killing in the series. Inspector John Kildare works the case and wants it solved before Elizabeth is hanged.
