Plot summary
Wade Wilson works as the mercenary Deadpool. On his anniversary with his girlfriend Vanessa, he fails to kill a target. That evening the two of them decide to start a family, and the target finds Wade and kills Vanessa. Wade takes his revenge and, weeks later, cannot move on. Colossus brings him to the X-Mansion, and Wade agrees to join the X-Men. With Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead he answers a standoff between authorities and Russell Collins, a young mutant at an orphanage. Cable, a cybernetic soldier, comes back through time to kill Russell.

- Stunt performer Joi "SJ" Harris died during filming when she lost control of a motorcycle and crashed into Shaw Tower; she had joined the production only a week earlier and was not wearing a helmet because her character, Domino, does not wear one on screen.

Brad Pitt filmed a secret cameo as the X-Force member Vanisher during two hours of filming in Los Angeles, after Ryan Reynolds asked him to shoot the part, and agreed to be paid "scale", which Reese described as the equivalent of a Starbucks coffee.- Veteran stunt double Melissa Stubbs had been available and willing to do the stunt, but the inexperienced Harris was preferred because her skin color matched Beetz; multiple stunt professionals criticized the decision.
- A post-credits scene in which Deadpool travels back in time to kill a baby Adolf Hitler was cut after test screenings: it made audiences too "squeamish", which was not the feeling the creative team wanted people leaving the film with.

Extra footage of the X-Force team was shot purely for the film's marketing, to hide the fact that most of the team are immediately killed as a joke in the film.- A CH-47 Chinook helicopter used in the film was rigged to a motion-base gimbal by Scroggins Aviation, marking the first time a real Chinook had been placed on a motion base for a motion picture.
